GIVING

Making a planned gift is a wonderful way to show your support and appreciation for George Mason University and its mission while accommodating your own personal, financial, estate-planning, and philanthropic goals.

Patricia and David Haresign Create Bequest to Support Future Student and University Success

Patricia and David Haresign

Patricia Latchford Haresign, BSN ‘76, MS, NBC-HWC, joined the George Mason University School of Nursing at its beginning. Now she and her husband David Haresign, FAIA, have created a bequest that will promote the nursing program and student opportunities far into the future.

A member of the nursing school’s first graduating class in 1976, Patricia enjoyed a successful nursing and education career before setting up her own health and wellness coaching business during COVID-19. After retiring from nursing, she visited her alma mater and was amazed at the transformation she found.

Patricia believes that George Mason University promotes her personal priorities for health care professionals: nutrition, well-being (stress management), communication skills, and diversity.

Patricia and David’s legacy gift caps years of sponsorship and involvement in university events and projects, including Patricia’s service on the Dean’s Advisory Board for the College of Public Health.

“I want to leave [the bequest] broad enough to support student scholarships or a new program that will enhance the School of Nursing or support a faculty member … to continue to prepare competent nurses,” Patricia says.

Attending Mason was a matter of cost and convenience when Patricia first arrived on campus. Now she reflects on how the nursing program launched her rewarding career. She urges fellow alumni to make a planned gift as well.

“In our complex economic health care environment, I encourage you to discover ways you might support a student, program, research, or faculty member in a way that is meaningful to you and ultimately meets a need in our community,” she says. “Whatever your philanthropic motivation, generous support to the School of Nursing is a great way to ensure that we create a pipeline of professionally prepared nurses to care for us, our families, and our community.”
